How did your career path lead you to Landvest? I had previously worked in the self-storage industry in another state as a part time assistant manager. A series of life events brought me to Kansas and when I started looking for a job, I found Landvest!
What is the best advice you've received in your career? To welcome feedback. Accepting feedback helps me grow as an individual and a team member in my company.
Which experience(s) in your career influenced who you are today? I feel that meeting people from all walks of life and their different circumstances has made me more compassionate and understanding as an individual. We are all humans going through this life facing many different trials and tribulations.
What is your favorite part of your position? I love meeting all the people that come into my office. Anyone looking for storage is going through changes in their life. It makes me feel good to be able to help people out with their storage needs and make this process as least stressful on them as possible.
What is your least favorite part of your position? When I don’t have the availability to rent a unit to someone.
What is the most difficult part of your position? Most definitely auctions! Sometimes people do lose their belongings in auction after a period of non-payment according to state law. It’s never easy to deliver the news to someone that has happened, though I do keep in communication with them every step of the way.
You are a Certified Manager, what prepped you best to achieve this certification? Studying the manual and on-the-job training prepared me for sure. But I also have to give credit to my company. We have an open door policy that allows us to call anyone in the company to ask questions and I have most definitely done this.
If you could only call one member of the Landvest team to answer a question, any question, who would you call and why? Brian Byrd. He takes the time to not just answer the question, but explain the why behind the answer and the reason we, at Landvest, do things the way we do.
Describe the endeavor you are most proud of while being part of the Landvest team? I am very proud of my time here working on the Landvest team. Being here for over 5 years has given me the opportunity to become a certified manager (currently Platinum level, but soon to be Diamond level certified) and to really know the ins and outs of my property well so that if something is out of place, I notice it right away.
What would you tell someone that is thinking about joining the Landvest team? Definitely go for it! You won’t be sorry!
